The Dighton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in combating crime. The Camera Registry Program (CRP) allows residents or business owners to register their video surveillance locations with the Dighton Police Department. The video surveillance locations included in the database will allow Dighton Police to know where residents or businesses may have video footage that could be helpful to an investigation. Officers may then be able to collect potential video evidence by contacting the owner of the surveillance system or by traveling to the business or residence to view the footage.
Registering your camera location with the CRP does not provide the Dighton Police Department with direct access to your camera or its footage.
Residents or business owners who choose to volunteer their surveillance system’s location for inclusion in the registry will complete a form disclosing the camera’s interior or exterior location and it’s proximity to any nearby intersections or landmarks. There is no cost associated with registering a camera with the CRP and registration may be withdrawn at any time by notifying Det. Ryan Richards.
Individuals’ information will be accessed by law enforcement personnel who are investigating a crime in the vicinity of where the registered camera is located. Residents who have registered a camera will only be contacted by the Dighton Police Department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of the security camera. Police personnel, if necessary to assist in the investigation of a crime, may request a copy of any video footage captured by a resident’s registered camera.
An individual’s personal information will be kept confidential and will only be available to the Dighton Police Department unless subject to disclosure by court order.
